You can manufacture weapons, and you can purchase ammunition, but you can't buy valor and you can't pull heroes off an assembly line.
Stephen Ambrose D-Day Tours follow along the path where America’s best and brightest fought in World War II.
We cover the entire D-Day campaign from the planning—Operation Overlord—to the landing on June 6, 1944—D-Day to the Rhine—to the battles that raged in the inland breakout region beyond the D-Day beaches for 80 days until the liberation of Paris—Normandy Tour.
Designed by Stephen E. Ambrose, author of the bestselling book, D-Day: June 6, 1944, our D-Day tour itineraries are based on thousands of hours of interviews with veterans who fought on D-Day as well as the studying of the Normandy battlefields with the men who fought there. Thanks to the decades of experience of our full-time historians with the terrain and its history, we are able to carry on Dr. Ambrose’s legacy and present D-Day Tours that are unmatched in their authenticity.
D-Day to the Rhine Tour
Our D-Day to the Rhine Tour was designed by Stephen Ambrose in the 1970s and is the first D-Day tour that was ever commercially operated. It is a dream trip for any WWII history buff who wants to learn about the preparation for the D-Day invasion, and visit the key sites in Normandy by following Eisenhower’s army through Europe. We walk Utah Beach and Omaha Beach, experience the powerful emotions brought forth by the American cemeteries, drive Hell’s Highway to a Bridge Too Far to learn about the Market Garden, and stand in a foxhole in the Ardennes to relive the Battle of the Bulge—the biggest battle of American forces in WWII. Operation Overlord Tour
The Operation Overlord Tour covers the planning and launch of the D-Day Invasion. This D-Day tour is the brainchild of the late Stephen Ambrose and was further developed by Capt. Ronald Drez, our Chief Historian. Dr. Ambrose and Capt. Drez designed this itinerary after thousands of hours of interviews with D-Day veterans, study of the battlefields, research and writing. Thanks to their experience with the terrain and knowledge of the history, we are able to present a D-Day tour that parallels the invasion. View itinerary>>
The Normandy Tour: From the Beachhead to the Falaise Pocket covers the Normandy Campaign from June 7, 1944 until the liberation of Paris. By the evening of D-Day, more than 150,000 Allied troops had been landed on the coast of France and Adolf Hitler’s vaunted “Atlantic Wall” had been breached. The war, however, was a long way from over. For the next 80 days the eyes of the world were fixated on the battles being fought in Normandy where, after almost five years of war, the fate of Adolf Hitler’s vaunted “1,000 Year Reich,” was being decided.
